The Great Bacon Odyssey

Saturday, April 30, 2011 Review by BetterThanAndrew

So I just saw this today, and I thought it’d be an excellent follow up to my previous woven bacon submission. I am very anxious to try this, as it appears to have a paltry prep and execution time compared to the Bacon Explosion with a possibly higher (whoa!) reward-to-effort ratio. I already see room for improvement on the foundation, as well. I can see a myriad of seasoning options for the ground beef, itself. You could have a heyday with it, depending on the flavor of your bacon and how you wanted to play off of it.
I actually love making burgers with Lipton onion soup mix and Worcestershire sauce. The catch is that the worc’ sauce compromises the cohesive integrity of the burger and it wants to fall apart on the grill. Oh, what is a grill junkie to do!? WRAP THAT MOTHERF$#%&R IN BACON, apparently! It was so OBVIOUS! It’d require some sort of barrier on the grill, I’d imagine. A few layers of foil or something to keep the bacon on the bottom from burning while the rest came up to temp. It should be good, though. I’ll keep folks updated once I have a chance to put it to the test.

Peanut Butter Bacon Cookies

Peanut Butter Bacon Cookies

Via: http://www.joythebaker.com/blog/2009/09/peanut-butter-bacon-cookies/

recipe found on joythebaker.com

adapted from The Gourmet Cookbook

makes 15 cookies about the size of your palm

1 cup all-natural chunky or smooth peanut butter

1 cup sugar (1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup granulated sugar)

1 egg

1 teaspoon baking soda

about 6 slices of bacon, cooked, cooled and dices

In a skillet over medium high heat, fry up bacon until cooked through and let cool on paper towels until cool enough to dice.  Dice up and set aside.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Grease a baking sheet with butter and set aside. In a mixer combine peanut butter and sugars until well combined, about 2 minutes. Add egg and baking soda and mix for another 2 minutes. ¬†Fold in cooked bacon. ¬† Roll into large walnut sized balls and create a¬†cris-cross pattern with a fork. If you’d like, roll the dough balls in granulated sugar before making thecris-cross pattern. Bake for 10 minutes, until lightly browned. Cool on a baking sheet for five minutes, then transfer to… your mouth.
